A few years ago we were discussing changing zoning in Dennis Village to promote the Cultural Arts uses currently located in the Village. The following was a preliminary concept for such a district.
The district met with significant resistance from some people due to the idea of rezoning the Cape Playhouse property to provide it with a conforming use status. A detailed discussion of what was appropriate for the Village never really had a chance to take place. As I noted on the Economic Development Blog last night, the closure of the North Shore Music Theater is a bad omen for community and summer theaters. While the loss of any business is not good for a community, the loss of a large business and regional attraction can have a dramatic impact on an economy. This revives the question, should we be revisiting the discussion of a new zoning proposal for Dennis Village?
