Village Wayfinding Signs
The following is the slideshow I presented to the Dennis Economic Development Committee at the January 19th meeting. At the meeting the EDC voted to request the Board of Selectmen schedule a public hearing for a Dennis Sign Code Amendment and to place this amendment on the Spring Annual Town Meeting.
PROPOSED AMENDMENT TO DENNIS SIGN CODE
To see if the Town of Dennis will make the following amendments to Chapter 151 of the Dennis General By-laws Sign Code by adding to Section 12 Definitions “Village Wayfinding Signs” and to Section 13

No more than three slats/panels per Wayfinding sign.
Lettering no larger than 4 inches in height.
No business logos, commercial graphics, or other forms of advertising shall be on wayfinding signs.
The standards set in the MUTCD Section 2D.50 Community Wayfinding Signs shall be followed, except as specifically restricted in this proposal.
A single slat/panel within any group of three slats/panels may contain accessory information, such as “Open Today” “Music Tonight” etc, however destinations shall take priority over such accessory signs..
A business or destination must be located within 500 feet of a wayfinding sign.
The appropriate Village Committee shall determine the placement of business names on wayfinding signs based upon a first come first served basis. In the event two requests are received at the same time priority shall be given to the nearest business. |
One signpost containing one set of wayfinding signs per leg of the intersection.
No business may appear on more than two wayfinding signs. The Town Street Name may appear on a Wayfinding sign and not be considered one of the three panels. |
