Flood Zone Map

REVISED AUGUST 4, 2009

On July 30, 2009 we received a new set of maps from FEMA for the National Flood Insurance Program.  These new maps are significantly different from the May 12, 2009 version of the map.  You can download the July 30, 2009 flood maps by clicking on the picture below.  It is a large file (25 mb) so it will be slow loading.  The map includes layers which can be turned on and off so you can compare the existing flood maps with the new flood map proposal.  For now I have removed the May 12, 2009 version of the map to avoid any confusion.  The July 30, 2009 maps are the version which the town will need to adopt at next May’s Town Meeting in order to ensure the town remains eligible for flood insurance.

Using this map and Adobe Reader 9.0 you can turn on and off the flood data layers.  Doing so will provide you with a clear illustration of the flood zone changes.  To make use of these features you will need to download the file to your computer.

Unfortunately we were only provided data for Barnstable County. Even then, I do not have base data for the other towns. You will need to contact specific communities or FEMA for data on these other areas.

  3. Dan,

A friend of mine has a home off of Swan River.
The water at high tide is 6ft from her back deck.
It’s getting closer & closer every year.
Is there anything the town can do to help her with this??

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Regards,

Not an easy answer. The river cuts through mostly sand and changes course over the years. The town is looking to dredge the mouth of the river which could be of some help. Your friend should talk to the Conservation Commission about specific actions she could take.

  5. These maps are proposals? When would they be official?

  6. The current timetable is for these maps to become official next summer, either in June or July 2010. The town will need to adopt these maps at next May’s Town Meeting to remain eligible for the Flood Insurance Program.

  7. Thank you. So in the meantime, if a property owner wants to know if their zone is changing- can they call or email someone with an address to find out what the new proposed zone is?

  8. If they cannot find the location on the maps on the blog, they can contact me directly.

  9. Is 48 West StreetDennisport in the flood zone?

  10. Not in a flood zone.
