Neighborhood public spaces

Benches as public spaces. (http://www.onthecommons.org/magazine/create-commons-your-own-front-yard)

Here is an interesting idea. We have lost much of the feeling of community brought about by the “front stoop.” Big front yards have separated people from the edge of sidewalk. Benches, inviting people to sit for a spell, might just bring this sense of neighborhood back. Just a thought.

    Greetings to All,

I am in agreement with Mr. Fortier’s comment regarding benches. Sitting even for a few minutes brings a feeling of inclusion with the environment and people passing by. It is rewarding even if one is alone on the bench. Just nice to sit. Conversing with others who may join you is just an added bonus, so to speak. Benches bring a sense of older times and rurality. Very comforting!!
