Flood Zone Adoption In Zoning By-law

A large turn-out tonight for Town Meeting. Article 30 amending the Dennis Zoning By-law by adopting the new National Flood Insurance Program Flood Maps was adopted as was necessary to maintain the town’s eligibility to participate in the NFIP program, receive federally backed mortgages for properties located in the flood zone and be eligible for federal disaster relief. For this support, I thank you.

However, we all should remain vigilante, monitoring future Congressional efforts to modify the flood insurance program. Federal interests in disaster relief are not the same as local interests. We all need to work hard to ensure that, in 2017, Congress does not push us back into the clutches of legislation similar to Biggert-Waters.
