This issue never crossed my mind. We have a number of residents who have undertaken home elevations to protect against flooding and manage their flood insurance costs. Never in my wildest imagination would I have thought that elevating a house would trigger the need to change the telephone poles surrounding the home.
It is an outrage that this cost would be borne by someone recovering from, or preparing for, flooding. I will explore with FEMA and the state, the viability of using pre-disaster mitigation funds to upgrade our poles in the areas with the need for the greatest increases in elevation for homes.
I will also ask some of those on the south side coastline in West Dennis that have elevated structures, whether they have had to address these type of utility changes.
